Here it is Christmas…

This is the bad boy that started them all.

Today I present to you the first holiday mix I made from 2006.  It may be my favorite of the mixes.  This was the year I decided to give into Christmas and the winter season.  Instead of being grumpy all the time and hating on Christmas songs everywhere I went, I decided to find my own style of music and found the wonder in songs that aren’t necessarily “holiday” music, but have that great wintery feeling to them.  I also spent hours digging through my record collection searching for songs with certain words in the title.  I have such a variety of records that sometimes I don’t even know what is on them, I just bought them for the cover (see Harmonicats).  I miss doing such things.  I now go through the same practice, but on the computer via Google.  It’s not quite the same feeling.

It should also be said that, although I’m agnostic, songs about God/Jesus fascinate and crack me up.

I’m also a big lover of Doris Day, so just deal with it.

Anyways, you can get the playlist here (they may not transfer into iTunes in the right order – I don’t know why).  I hope you enjoy.

I also found some videos for a couple of the songs.  Enjoy…

Wintry Mix

Maybe it’s that I attended my first holiday party of the season last night, or maybe it’s that it is finally starting to get really cold here in New York.  Maybe it’s just because I’ve been listening to holiday music at work for 3 days straight now, but I’m really getting into Christmas right about now.  I wake up with Jingle Bells in my head.  (Seriously, I do.  It scares me a little)

I used to be the queen of the holiday mix cd.  I started doing them in 2006, and did one every year until 2008.  After that I started slipping on the mixes.  Between money issues and losing beloved pets, I put off doing the mixes till it was just too late to get anything done.

Well, I’m back!  While I put together a new mix for this year, I thought I would do a couple of posts featuring my old mixes.  Unfortunately, my computer crashed not too long ago so I lost all the awesome art work that I did for them, but I still have the music.  Click this link for my 2007 mix (tracklist is at the bottom of the page).

Now, I know this is a blog about what I’m watching. Listening to this old mix got me curious to see if I could find videos to any of these songs.  Here are a few highlights.

Check out the hair!!

My cat really liked this video. He kept pawing the screen.

Sad, it’s all just too sad.

Cat Videos

I feel like I’ve watched a dozen different cat videos today. I’m not complaining, I’m just letting you know how sad my life is sometimes. (I don’t really think it is sad to watch cat videos all day. If anything they make you happier!)

Here are a few of the gems that I watched.

How awesome is that Skittles commercial? Featured cats, furries, and candy. Mmmm…I love Skittles.
Fun Wendy fact – Every time I get sick, my cure-all is to stay in bed watching Buffy, eating Skittles, and drinking cranberry juice. I always feel better then next day. It’s a magical combo.

Yes, this is old, but someone posted it to my wall today on Facebook and I rewatched it. It’s worth the rewatch for all the adorable cat cameos.

Kitty wants to be Michael Jordan when he grows up.

I’m not sure what I just watched, but I was in full on Anderson Cooper style giggle mode by the end of it.

Once again, I would like to thank Catsparella for all things kitty.

Jim Henson

Today would have been Jim Henson’s 75th birthday. It’s hard to express how much I love this man (I totally cried watching the above video). His creations were magical. Watching them always fills me with optimism and wonder, and reminds me how wonderful childhood was.

When he died in 1990, I remember the next Rolling Stone issue had a memorial to him in the back of the magazine. It was a simple one page tribute, but I tore it out of the magazine and framed it on my wall. Framing a magazine article about a dead puppeteer probably wasn’t exactly a normal thing for a 14 year old to do, and I’m sure it clashed with all the pictures of River Phoenix and the Lost Boys I had on my wall, but I loved that man that much. Truly a life lost too soon.

Coincidentally, today also marks the 20th anniversary of Theodor Seuss Geisel’s death. Better know as Dr. Seuss.

Bears

Two different bear videos for you. Bears rule! I don’t care what Stephen Colbert says on the subject.

These dudes live at the Bronx zoo. They. Are. Fucking. Adorable. I was at the zoo about a month ago and witnessed their cuteness first hand. I thought I had video of them splashing around in the water, but I couldn’t find it on my phone. Hrm.

Most adorable thing I’ve seen today.

Ryan Gosling

Fart.  Can’t get the embeded version of this to work.  Here’s the link.

Shhhh…this isn’t really YouTube.

Ryan Gosling being adorable, and answering questions about how he’s Canadia…..OMG! Did he just say his favorite Star Trek movie is “the one with the whales”?!  My crush on you, sir, has just grow 8 feet.

(thanks Jezebel for this)
